Advising Family Members

Question :

I know that enjoining the good and forbidding the wrong is obligatory. Do I have to advise my family member or a friend if he does not take my advice?

Answer :

It is obligatory to enjoin the good and forbid the wrong, as long as there is a possibility of causing a positive effect, or if there is a benefit that results from such an act, even if it is for a third party. Sometimes, pointing out that a certain act is a sin and one should refrain from it, or that a certain act is obligatory and must be done, will benefit other people who are present.
